Basic blog or a community?
14 Nov 06 Filed in:Websites
There is an increasing number of people who visit this site at least once a week, so there is a suggestion that we are doing something at least half interesting. 54% of visitors in January have bookmarked the site
As part of our general plan to do this properly and make the blog sustainable, we are in the process of cranking up the features on the website. We just did that January 7th Let us know what you think, and most importantly what doesn't work or do it for you.
But beyond consolidating what we are already doing now, we want to know if you guys think it is worth us building on what we have established so far. We will answer this and further questions based on what we have learnt so far
Are there enough people into our style of pisstaking to make a community? Based on figures from Boag's World, we need about 10000 visitors to start a community. These are a couple of ideas we would really appreciate some help over. Thanks.
The intention is that our visitors join the groups and add their own web, tech and quirky favourite photos to what we have found so far. That way, we can write satirical articles and snippets about topics and themes that interest YOU.
Or should we keep on doing what we are doing now, and roll our own? Until we have a reputation and an easy submission process, we will probably need to roll our own for a while longer.
We are also asking good bloggers to write humorous articles for us to post here, to spice it up a bit. If we have a pool of good writers, we can definitely find some money to pay them for their trouble, later on. Or is it easier just to read what we turn out? We have had one offer so far to write an article. The longer we go, the more chance we may have of receiving submissions. But for now, as you were, Ed, keep on writing.

Fuller participation?
We were just thinking that if others contribute written and photo/video material then visitors may perhaps feel more motivated to watch, read, talk, write a comment, and generally go beyond surfing silently through our daily updates. What do you think? Or do you prefer to just read and not get involved? Let us know if you have a chance. Thanks. Until there is larger mass of visitors, there probably won't be a community feel. One step at a time..
