John C Dvorak is the pisstaker

The prolific columnist for PC World sits on high, lording over all things computer and PC. Often dubbed a miserable git, he was all smiles explaining his tactic to bait and trap Mac fans into reading his columns. What a pisstaker!

Temper, temper

Apart from raising his kudos as a popular writer, of course he does well financially when going after Apple Mac devotees. Mac owners are loaded compared to those poor souls tapping away on heat-generating fan-blowing plastic PC doorstops. They are also arty and peaceful folks too, so when they get furious over anti-Mac observations, they go mad in a constructive way. Rather than beat the computer, they start venting by clicking on his Adsense ads. Brilliant.

Tempered opinion

And then of course, he rubs in his perfect understanding of the Mac head mindset by taking the opposite stance a week or so later. The Apple fanbois have a good memory (they pay so much for it, it has to be good) and of course they fly into the pisstakingly inconsistent Dvorak in even greater numbers. Insensed Maccers start tutting and eye-rolling, and then go mad, clicking the sidebars in frustration. Bingo. Up goes the Adsense revenue again. Clever guy.

One question for the great man.

What is the secret to the success of his Uncensored blog? Because it can't be the content! While a lone Pisstaker blogger single-handedly produces maybe 8 articles a day with loads of wit and humor, JCD has a team of people copying and pasting other people's work, and contributes little more to the blogosphere than a quick one-liner comment.

Should the Pisstakers generate some deserved traffic by perhaps saying that John C Dvorak is fleecing his visitors with shoddy content, and then rescind a week later? Afterall, what we really meant to say was that he brings news stories to the people in ways that no other blog can?

Maybe in anticipation of the furor, we should bring forward our plans to introduce Adsense? Thanks for the tip, Mr D.
